The environment in an early care and education program serves as the foundation for learning and development in all domains. Using the constructivist theory, emphasizing creating an environment in which children can actively interact and construct their own knowledge, this course explores the importance of the environment on learning, basic principles for setting up an early learning environment, and selecting age-appropriate materials. Additionally, developmentally appropriate ways to incorporate content areas into the classroom environment and integrating the indoor and outdoor learning environments to infuse the natural world into the learning experience are discussed. Funding for this 4-hour training was provided by the Workforce Solutions as part of their Early Care and Education Quality Improvement initiative.
